About me

I was born in the UK and stayed there until I was about 23 when I went to Canada for a year where I worked at a cinema and for a newspaper. After I'd travelled across Canada by bus and seen a lot of the country, I came back to the UK where I trained as a teacher of English and found a job in Taiwan where a friend of mine was already working. I stayed there for about 4 years and then came to New Zealand. I now call New Zealand home. I like my down-time, I like being with my family and friends. I like the quiet but I love good music. I like a good party but I also love a book that pulls me in or a film that I can't turn away from. I like having time to appreciate things and don't like being rushed. I love getting out of the city into the bush and going for a walk with my family, then along the beach and maybe stop for a coffee on the way home. One of my favourite places to visit is Bethels beach to do just those things. I'm a bit of a dreamer and often find myself thinking that the grass is greener somewhere else. I enjoy teaching English but hope that my job will evolve in the future. I hope to travel and work in Latin America with my family and then return to NZ and who knows what would happen then. I would love to open my own school in the future with other teachers who would have the same vision as me. In the future I'd love to see Mexico, a condor in the Andes, live in a house surrounded by bush and close to the sea and see my family grow together happily and healthily.

Everyone wants to be good at writing for different reasons.  Some people want to be better writers because they want to go to university, some because writing is important to them and others because of job requirements.  When I studied Chinese, I wanted to learn to write because I thought that just being able to speak was not enough  - not being able to write was a big problem especially in a culture where being a good writer was a great thing to be.  What about you?  Why do you want to improve your writing?
I've been teaching for quite a long time and now I'm trying to use technology in a way that adds something to the classroom experience, so this blog is here to do just that.  I hope it will be a place where we can all improve our writing and become writers in English in an interesting & relevant way.
